Anybody knows in which book store I could buy HCSB Minister's Bible 2010, in any of these cities: New York, Los Angeles, Houston, San Francisco?

I can't receive it by post in this country because the customs are destroying the shipments once they find out it's a Bible inside. Coz the religion in this country is Islam.

But a friend of mine, she is a stewardess, she will be flying to US next month (July). She will spend 36 hours only, in each one of these cities I have mentioned.

Would be great if some book store could deliver it to her in the hotel. She would bring it to me here then.

Thank you.

Best,

Jozsef

I have been using it to carry around. I bought it when it came out and then posted a review at evangelicalbible.com

My other favorite is the HCSB Minister ed (because of the size I just do not carry it around as much)...with the single column. Single Column + HCSB is the ultimate combo in my opinion.

However, I do have a question about the brackets. I know that some people did not like the brackets, claiming that they aren't needed in an optimal equivalence translation. However, myself and others believe that the brackets help to highlight the "literalness" of the translation, espcially in churches that emphasize the formal style (NASB & ESV). The HCSB already does well to emphasize its "understandability" by using modern English grammar, contractions, etc., so emphasizing it's literalness can help balance it out so that other "formal types" will give it a try.

The brackets can make a major difference in the text. For example, John 8:24 says: "For if you do not believe that I am [He], you will die in your sins." The brackets help the HCSB to be one of the few translations that show Jesus using God's divine name, "I AM." (Also NIV, NLT, ISV, KJV). The formal NASB and ESV do not. Without the brackets, we're back to "I am He."

Also, 2 Corinthians 5: 17 says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, [he is] a new creation..." The 2003 text said, "[There is] new creation, while the 2009 text says, "[he is] a new creation..." Newer translation are using either interpretation, but the HCSB's brackets might allow for people to see both options as available. Without the brackets, we lose that choice. There are just two examples among many.

I know very little about translation compared to the amazing HCSB Team, and I could be very wrong or ill-informed about the above ideas, but I am wondering if someone could help to shed some light on how the final decision was made, or of there is a possibility of having both brackets or non-brackets in various editions (like red-letter vs. black letter). Love the HCSB and so thankful for the many people tirelessly working on it, trying to be faithful to God and His people. Thank you!

I am using it now as my primary translation! Including in our student ministry. I am impressed with the new generation of HCSB 2009 editions - Student Apologetics Study Bible, HCSB Study Bible, HCSB Study Bible IPad Edition, etc. - and can't wait to see what comes next. I would love to see some new second edition compact bibles (6 x 4), but even more, a personal size reference bible (7 x 5), maybe even single column. It's a great size that's not too big and not too small. Thanks!

- Large print (10-11 pt. font)

- Center (or side) column cross references - complete

- Solid white pages (no text ghosting from other pages)

- Solid black text - not grey (easier on the eyes)

- Wide margins (for note taking)

- Red Letter (Christ) / Bold Black (OT Ref in NT) Text

- Concordance

- Dictionary

- Maps

Most of the HCSB Bibles have the last three, but none have a complete set of the first five, nor do any other Bibles from the other publishers (Zondervan, Tyndale, Nelson, etc).

There is a huge market for a solid reference Bible (not study Bible) that would help people get into the Word, and stay there. Most Bibles today try to be everything to everybody, and the result is too much information crammed into thin, ghost-text pages, tiny font, and other distracting items.

Study Bibles are great, but I'd GLADLY trade study notes for the items mentioned above...and so would millions of other people. For people who really want to get into deeper study, a good commentary would work perfectly.

The HCSB translation is by far the best of any modern translations, and a Bible that includes the items above would sell like wild fire, with me (and my whole church) being the first to buy!

Great job on the translation...
